If you’re looking for something magical this Christmas, then look no further than the classic rags to riches tale Cinderella at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.
From beginning to end this glittering star cast will not fail to make you smile. From the moment you walk into the theatre greeted with the sparking Cinderella set you will be taken on a journey away from the coldness of the winter’s night.
The cast have clearly put their high spirits into the panto and it shows. We’ve been spoilt with Hear’Say’s Suzanne Shaw as the magical Fairy Godmother, Strictly Come Dancing contestant Russell Grant as Baron Hardup, Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Andrew Derbyshire as Prince Charming, our very own Andy Collins as Buttons, Tim Hudson and Dave Lynn as the hilarious Ugly Sisters and of course 19 year old Holly Brewer as the beautiful Cinderella.
I don’t want to give too much away but the audience’s breath was taken away at the end of Act One as Cinderella (Holly Brewer) was magically transformed by her Fairy Godmother (Suzanne Shaw) from her rags to a sparkling ball gown that every little girl would only dream about, then stepping into the most perfect carriage pulled by two gorgeous little white Shetland ponies to be taken to the ball, whilst performing the famous duet ‘Let it Go’ from Disney’s Frozen.
In Act Two the audience were involved with some of our little ones being taken to the stage, which was absolutely hilarious, kids really do the funniest things. As well as Buttons giving shout outs to people and groups in the audience, don’t forget to get your requests in!
Buttons continuously lights up the stage by interacting with the audience, it was amazing watching the children, and adults shouting ‘Hello Buttons’ whilst waving their jazz hands. The children in the audience didn’t hold back when given the opportunity to shout out ‘Oh, no you’re not!’ or ‘He’s behind you!’ in true panto style. Buttons and the Ugly Sisters naturally won us all over with their hilarious 12 Days of Christmas song, which will never get old in the world of panto. I’m still humming along to it as I write this review, “…and a bra that was made for three!”
Keep your eyes open for local children you might know in the cast. Am I allowed to give a shout out to Harrison Smith, Jacob Smith, Poppy Armstrong and Chloe Makepeace that I spotted? – Oops I just have.
If you’re not a pantomime fan, get ready to be converted. With this fabulous star cast, gorgeous costumes, sparkling sets, songs that we all know and love, the must see show is a spectacular family outing that everyone will fall in love with.
Bravo to everyone involved in bringing the magic of Christmas to Aylesbury.
